Our under 16’s played their second group game away to St Francis on Saturday morning last. In a game spoiled by the strong wind blowing straight down the pitch we used the wind to good advantage in the first half and built up an 0-8 to 0-4 lead by half-time. With the aid of the wind in second half our lead was shot lived thanks to a goal and point early in the second half for the home team. Our lads showed great battling qualities to never give up and were unlucky when a great shot from Aiden rattled the cross bar with only a couple of minutes to go. Final score was 1-8 to 0-10 in favour of St Francis. Next game is on Friday evening, March 28th, at 5;30 at home to Glencar Manor. Panel; Damien Grimes, Sean Fox, Colin Maguire, David O’Connell, Devin Quinn, Anthony Holohan, Fergal Mitchell, Ciaran Gilheany, Fionnbarr Quinn, Stephen Gilheany, Brian Fee, Conal Murray, Gary Plunkett, Aiden Dolan, Rory Mc Tague. ***********************************************************************************************Monday 17th March 2008

Flanagan Cup;
This years Flanagan cup started shortly after 4pm in the park last Sunday. It was very encouraging to see the mix of young and experienced players fielding two full teams so early in the season. Morgan Quinn opened the scoring for the blue team on the fifth minute with a point from play. John Prior also contributed for the blues with a pointed free ten minutes later. It took yellows captain John McGovern to open the scoring for his side with a fine point from play on the eighteenth minute, points from Martin Flynn, Gerard Conlon and Noel Plunkett also contributed to the yellows tally. Sean Quinn slotted over for the blues but it was John Prior who took up his new “Peter Crouch” like position at full forward with two well taken goals to give the blue team a four point advantage at half time. Ryan Creamer started the comeback for the yellows five minutes into the second half with a point from a set piece. This was cancelled out two minutes later with a long range effort from Morgan Quinn. But Creamer struck again finishing off a passing movement with a low shot to the net for the yellows first goal of the game. Paul Prior also added a point from play for the yellows. Despite a mighty battle between Noel Darcy and John Prior, an overlapping move from the blues allowed John space to slot home his third of the afternoon to complete his hat-trick. Some good fielding from both midfields and dogged defending showed more fight by both sides late in the second half. A Gavin Beirne point and a long range effort from John Flynn finished off the blues scoring for the day. The yellows came back into it in the last ten minutes which resulted in some fine saves from Colin McGuire between the posts. Points from John McGovern, Martin Flynn, Paul and Christy Prior brought the scores back to a minimum and an injury time goal from Gerard Conlon left the teams all square at the final whistle. Referee Mickey Flanagan spoke on behalf of the Flanagan Family and with a flip of the coin presented the Cup to the winning captain John Mc Govern. Corner forward Pat Flanagan presented the award for junior player of the match to Colin McGuire and An Bainisteoir Jerome Quinn presented the Senior player of the match award to Noel Darcy.Scor Na nOg;

On a blustery afternoon in Kiltubrid on Sunday last our brave Feile team won the right to represent Leitrim in the 2008 All Ireland Feile competition thus ending a journey that began last November. Playing into the wind in the first half our boys and girls got a grip on the game all over the field and after a strong run from Devin through the middle which resulted in a fine goal from distance we went into the break leading by 1-2 to 0-2. With the wind at our backs and some fine moves we ran out comfortable winners over a gallent Annaduff side who battled to the end. Final score of 4-5 to 0-2. This is a historic win for these players as they are the first team to win the 15 aside Feile competition within Leitrim and enormous credit must go the mentors, Seamus, Paraic, Tomas and Donal who prepared the team over the winter and kept all the players focused when it seemed the competition would never end. To all the players on the panel we say well done and be proud of your achievement. This year the All Ireland Feile competition is being hosted by Cavan in the summer so it will be an opportunity to represent your club and county at the highest level possible for under 14. Panel; Killian Lavin, Barry Taylor, Rory Mc Tague, Grainne Donegan, Caoimhe Quinn, Ciara Gaffney, Daire Mc Niff, David O’Connell, Stephen Gilheany, Sean Fox, Mark Plunkett, Devin Quinn, Sorcha Flanagan, Aishling Maguire, Kevin Murtagh, Dylan Minma, Pierse Dolan, Gary Plunkett, Fergal Mc Tague, Conor Gaffney, Declan Flanagan, Donal Mc Cabe, Jake Bentley, Adam Kerins.Minor League;
The minors suffered their first defeat of the league against a physically stronger St Manachans in Eslin on Sunday morning. Despite letting in an early goal our lads battled back to draw level by half time on a score line of 0-5 to 1-2. A couple of injuries around the field and a second goal for St Manachans early in the second half killed off the game. Final score was 2-9 to 0-8. Last group game is home to Sheemore Gaels on Friday March 21st at 12;00Under 16 League;

On a windy afternoon in Leitrim Gaels pitch on Saturday our feile team withstood a late challenge from Glencar/Manor to earn a place in the Leitrim final on a score line of 2-3 to 2-2. Playing with the wind in the first half, despite missing a number of goal scoring chances we still managed to build up a lead of 1-3 to 0-0 by half-time. A great move up the field involving 4 or 5 players resulted in our only score of the second half, a goal finished off by Mark. For the last 10 minutes it was a case of backs to the wall as Glencar/Manor pushed for the scores they needed. Despite getting back to the bare minimum we never panicked and held on for a famour win. The final is scheduled for next weekend at a time and venue to be confirmed. Panel; Daire Mc Niff, Rory Mc Tague, Donal Mc Cabe, Pierse Dolan, Conor Gaffney, Kevin Murtagh, Ciara Gaffney, Mark Plunkett, Fergal Mc Tague, Aileen Maguire, Declan Flanagan, Kevin Murtagh, Barry Taylor, Grainne Donegan, Killian Lavin, Dylan Minma, Gary Plunkett, Devin Quinn, Sean Fox, David O’Connell, Caoimhe Quinn,Minor League;

We played our second game in the 15-a-side Minor League on Sunday in Aughawillan against Dromahair. With visibility down to quite low levels, due to fog, this was one of only 2 games played in Leitrim. With the underfoot conditions good and our defence on top we opened up a 4 point lead by half-time, 0-5 to 0-1. Dromahair came back strongly in the second half and scored their first goal to level the game at 1-4 to 0-7 mid way through the half. Our lads responded with their usual spirit and despite kicking some poor wides took the lead again with five minutes left. A strike from out the field forced a save from our goalie but one of the Dromahair forwards was quickest to react and rifled the ball to the net to give the visitors the lead for the first time on a score line of 2-4 to 0-8. When we needed to dig deep and not let the game slip away all the lads put in a huge effort and kept their cool to notch up 2 points to draw the game on a scoreline of 0-10 to 2-4. Panel; Paraic Dolan, Anthony Holohan, Kevin Mc Tague, Colin Maguire, Noel Plunkett, Morgan Quinn, Fergal Mitchell, Shane Flanagan, Dermot Holohan, Ciaran Gilheany, Sean Flanagan, Ryan Creamer, Aiden Dolan, Ronan Mc Cartin, Brian Fee, Dermot Maxwell, Fionnbarr Quinn. We played our first game in the newly formed 15-a-side Minor League on Sunday in Pairc Tom and after a keenly fought game with some excellent point taking from both teams we emerged victorious over St Marys on a score line of 1-12 to 1-7. On a lovely spring morning for a game of football the early exchanges were close before we pulled away with a number of fine points from distance to lead 0-5 to 0-2 at half time. A soft goal conceded at the start of the second half brought St Marys right back into the game and the character of our players was severely tested. For the next 15 minutes scores were exchanged as the game ebbed and flowed from end to end with never more than 2 points between the teams. In the final 10 minutes a great save at one end followed up by a pitch length move ended with a great goal from Shane put the game beyond St Marys. With time nearly up another fine move down the left wing finished with another good point to seal a notable victory. This was a real team effort with 8 players contributing scores over the hour and if all the players keep focused and dedicated a good run in this competition is well within their grasp. Panel; Paraic Dolan, Anthony Holohan, Kevin Mc Tague, Colin Maguire, Noel Plunkett, Morgan Quinn, Fergal Mitchell, Shane Flanagan, Dermot Holohan, Ciaran Gilheany, Sean Flanagan, Ryan Creamer, Aiden Dolan, Ronan Mc Cartin, Brian Fee, Dermot Maxwell, Fionnbarr Quinn. Next game is against Dromahaire at home on Sunday 17th February.Sunday 03th Feburary 2008
Lotto
The next lotto draw will take place on Saturday the 9th of February in Drumcoura City. The new jackpot is €5200.Club Trip To Blackpool
Friday the 25th of January marked the 3rd annual trip for the club. Wrynn’s bus departed from the square Ballinamore at 7.30am, the last pickup point was at the Sliabh Russell Hotel and we then proceeded towards Dublin airport with pilot Joe McGovern and co-pilot Frank McCabe in charge. We joined the Dublin crew and boarded the Ryanair Flight bound for Blackpool. Eyes were wide watching the large waves crashing against the promenade coast line of Blackpool as we drove towards the Hilton Hotel. Everyone checked in and some took advantage of the leisure facilities while others took advantage of the social facilities. A quick scouting mission took place around the town before all twenty six members were seated for a belt-bursting three course meal kindly sponsored by the Club. After diner a convoy of taxis took off for a night out on the town. Later back in the hotel a great night was had by all. Jerome Quinn and Garbhan McBrien portrayed an X-Factor style sing along until the very early hours. They found it slightly ironic having the English locals requesting the fields of Athenry, but the lads and their backing vocalists did not disappoint. Saturday morning found the group sticking sausages into their pockets as they rushed onto the coach for Karting2000. There was a refreshing coastline breeze on the 300m long karting track. A few warm up laps took place, the clock was set for 90miutes and the relay event was started. The willies showed their tough, hard and never say die reputation on the track. Some lads were quick to learn that a slight nudge in the right place could gain an advantage and a lot of drivers got to know the safety barriers very intimately, but there was one man who could not be caught and Christy Creamer received the winning trophy on behalf of his team. A relaxing evening was had while two Kiltyhugh men, Frank and Martin Flynn arrived on a Belfast flight to join the gang for another enjoyable dinner. The convoy once more proceeded down the promenade for one last night on the town. On Sunday afternoon the coach picked up the group and we made our way back for the airport and towards home. A very enjoyable time was had by all and the club was represented at the highest standard. The Club would like to thank Wrynn’s Coaches, Ryanair, Archway Coaches and the Hilton Hotel for making the trip possible and we hope that next years can be just as enjoyable.Minor League

EXIT FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Both our senior and junior teams made their exit from the 2007 championships at the weekend. The senior team had a gallant victory over Carrigallen but were eliminated on scoring average - a rather frivolous way of deciding a club’s fortunes in the most important competition in the club calendar. Of course no fault of Carrigallen and we wish them every good luck in the remainder of the championship. Final score Aughawillan 1-9 Carrigallen 1-7. The junior team we well beaten their second championship outing against Gortletteragh. Credit to all the players who turned out and played, particularly the veterans without whom we would have been unable to field a team. Final score Aughawillan 0-8 Gortletteragh 0-15.FIXTURES:

SENIOR & JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP DEFEATS
In the opening round of the senior championship we fell by a margin of 6 points to county champions Mohill. Score 2-6 to 2-12. This certainly presents an uphill battle for the next round against Carrigallen who have already won their opening game with Mohill. Nonetheless it is still all to play for as we look forward to the challenge of next weekend. It was a losing weekend all round with defeat in the Junior A championship at the hands of a much stronger Carrigallen second string in Cloone on Sunday afternoon. Score 1-4 to 2-15 As an aside congratulation to the Sean Ui Heslin Club on the wonderful condition of their grounds (nothing wrong with Cloone’s grounds either) and compliments too on their new electronic scoreboard. It might be worth reviewing the size and colouring of the letters but nonetheless very impressive.NEXT WEEKS CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES

There will be a combined training session on Wednesday in Kinnegad. It is absolutely essential that nobody miss this session. U-16’S LOSE TO SLIGO IN THE FR. MANNING In a remarkable turn of fortune Leitrim U-16 conjured a way of losing to Sligo having completely overrun the opposition the first half and at one stage lead by 8 points only to fail to score and lose the game in the second half by three. Once again Shane Flanagan gave an outstanding performance scoring 1-7 of his sides 1-8 total. But all is not lost, as a win on Wednesday evening against Roscommon will present Leitrim with an opportunity to play in a three play off. The game versus Roscommon is fixed for Hyde Park at 7.30pm August 1st. Good luck to our players Shane, Morgan, Colin & Ryan.Monday 23th July 2007

Well done lads, keep up the good work and enjoy the trip to Mosney.Under 14 Championship
The under 14’s concluded their campaign with two deserved wins over Melvin Gaels at home on Friday evening and away to Allen Gaels on Monday evening. Melvin Gaels put up a spirited first half performance to leave the minimum between the teams at half time. A powerful second half from our young footballers resulted in a comprehensive winning margin. Aided by a strong wind in the first half against Allen Gaels we scored some fine goals to leave the game on Monday evening effectively over by half time. Allen Gaels came back strongly in the second half but the margin was too large. We have now qualified to meet Mohill in the final which will be played in the next week. Keep up the training and effort is the message to all the players on the panel. Panel; Barry Taylor, Sean Fox, Caoimhe Quinn, Mark Plunkett, Sarah Quinn, Declan Flanagan, Niamh Kelly, Conor Gaffney, Stephen Gilheany, Ciara Gaffney, Noel Plunkett, Devin Quinn, David O’Connell, Fionnbarr Quinn, Gary Plunkett, Daire Mc Niff, Brian Flanagan, Rory Mc Tague,Feile DVD’s

The senior team lost to St. Mary’s in an evenly contested game in Aughawillan on Saturday evening. It was disappointing to lose, as we badly need to start picking up some points at this stage. Nonetheless it was a big improvement on our previous outings and with a bit of luck we hope to strike form for the start of the championship in two weeks time. As we have a bye in the first round of the championship it gives us an opportunity to study our opponents Mohill & Carrigallen who play next Friday evening at 8pm in Cloone.TRAINING
Training continues at home & Dublin on Tuesday with combined training on Thursday. Its imperative that nobody misses training at this stage and a full turnout is expected.CONGRATULATIONS TO SHANE, MORGAN, COLIN & RYAN
It is nice to see new talent coming through and none is more welcome that our four new intercounty stars Shane Flanagan, Morgan Quinn, Colin Maguire & Ryan Creamer who lined out with Leitrim in Ted Webb U-16 victory over Mayo at the weekend. Once again it was a masterful performance from Shane who scored 11 of his sides 14 points. Morgan, put in a great display at midfield, and was unfortunate to be sent off late in the game on a double yellow while Colin was a safe pair of hands in goals. Well done to all the lads and good luck next weekend in the semi-final against Galway.Under 12 league.
Pride of place goes to the Under 12’s who withstood a very strong challenge from a skilful and spirited Dromahair team in the league final played in Ballinaglera on Monday evening. Despite a very wet weekend and the heavy showers the pitch was in excellent conditions and helped produce an end to end match worthy of any final. In the first half defenses were on top with little room for our forwards of Aileen, Fergal, Ronan, Barry and Declan to show their talents. Two pointed frees, one for each team, was all the scores registered by half-time. So with all to play for the second half began in a similar vein with a lot of play concentrating around the middle of the pitch, where Ciara and Mark were involved in much of the action. A free from Mark edged our team into a lead they never relinquished. Dromahair tried their best but time and again the defense of Rory, Pierse, Donal, Conor and Kevin made vital interceptions whilst any time the ball reached the goals Daire dealt with it in his usual cool no nonsense way. A further two points from play from Mark after fine catches under pressure increased the lead to 3 points. Dromahair pulled one back but then just before the end a fine move out of defense reached Sorcha who soloed once before pointing in style. The long whistle sounded on the kick out to great celebrations. Joint captains Ciara and Rory accepted the cup from Dan Gallogly of Coiste na N’og. This truly was a victory built on a supreme effort from all on the panel, those who got playing and equally importantly those who went to training and all the other games. The under 12 championship is next on the list with a bigger effort needed to match last years’ team and do the double again. Well done to the mentors; Tomas, Gene, Seamus and Paraic on all their time and efforts over the year and to Ruth who was particularly busy with different knocks throughout the game. Well done to the referee who was totally impartial and made the players welfare paramount throughout. Panel; Daire Mc Niff, Rory Mc Tague, Donal Mc Cabe, Pierse Dolan, Conor Gaffney, Kevin Murtagh, Ciara Gaffney, Mark Plunkett, Ronan Maxwell, Fergal Mc Tague, Aileen Maguire, Declan Flanagan, Barry Taylor, Michael Prior, Grainne Donegan, Sorcha Flanagan, Ciaran O’Hare, Killian Lavin, Charlotte Eldridge, Aishling Maguire, Sinead Maguire, Dylan Minma, Jake Bentley, Shauna Plunkett.Under 14 Championship
The under 14’s started their championship campaign with an easy victory over Annaduff on Monday evening last. This was followed by an away game with Mohill on Friday evening. On a wet evening where underfoot conditions were testing a great game of football was played with a physically stronger Mohill winning out by 4 points in the end. Next game is home to Melvin Gaels on Friday evening at 7pm with the last group game away to Allen Gaels on Monday 23rd. Panel; Barry Taylor, Sean Fox, Caoimhe Quinn, Mark Plunkett, Sarah Flanagan, Declan Flanagan, Niamh Kelly, Conor Gaffney, Stephen Gilheany, Ciara Gaffney, Noel Plunkett, Devin Quinn, David O’Connell, Fionnbarr Quinn, Gary Plunkett, Daire Mc Niff.Feile DVD’s

While Leitrim may be out of the 2007 senior football championship they can feel immensely proud of their performance on Saturday evening last against Donegal in the first round qualifier in Carrick. At the end of normal time the sides were level and at the end of extra time only two points separated the teams. I think our county team can take great heart from their two outing in this year’s championship and we only have to look down the road and see what our neighbouring Sligo achieved. Congratulations to Barry Prior who came on for the injured Colin Regan to give a magnificent display.SENIOR LEAGUE NEXT SATURDAY
It’s back to club action next week. Our senior team host St. Mary’s in Aughawillan at 7pm. Lets hope we can get our league back on track as we soon need to get some points on the board.Monday 02th July 2007

Construction of the new dressing rooms is due to start at the end of August.TRAINING

This weekend’s Lotto Draw was held in Drumcoura instead of Gorby’s. There was no jackpot winner. Winners of 7 x €20 prizes were: Aiden Darcy Bawnboy, Colin Denneny Drumreilly, Kevin Kellegher Boley, Óisín Connefrey Garadice, Terry Fitzpatrick Bawnboy, John Connolly Doogarry & Hugh Joseph Maguire Drumreily. The new Jackpot is €3700 and the next draw is on Saturday July 14 in Shortts Ballinamore.FEILE WEEKEND A GREAT SUCCESS
The All Ireland Feile, which was hosted by Leitrim Clubs all over last weekend, was a resounding success. Our club hosted St. Valentine’s Girls team from outside Macroom in Co. Cork. On Friday afternoon there were two opening games in the club grounds: Drumreilly boys v Easkey from Co Sligo and Aughawillan Girls v St Valentine’s. Following the games Shiela Kiernan Catering Bawnboy provided both teams and supporters with hot food. On Saturday night a disco and presentation was made to the visiting teams in Drumlae Community Centre. Great credit is due to all involved in organising this huge undertaking both at club and county level. In particular we would like to thank our own club co-ordinators Damien and Sinéad. The club grounds looked splendid and were beautifully set off with welcoming signs and buntings. It was a great advertisement for our club and our county and all our visiting teams were very impressed.GOOD LUCK TO LEITRIM AGAINST DONEGAL
Leitrim take on Donegal in a first round qualifier at 7pm in Carrick on Saturday evening. This is a difficult assignment against the National League Champions but one, which you feel, is there for the taking. We wish Barry and his colleagues good luck and look forward to what should be a very entertaining game. Ticket are only required for the new stand with entry to all other areas of the ground by payment at the gate. The club will receive their allocation of stand tickets later in the week.Under 12 league.
We wish the under 12’s well in their league final where they will play Dromahair, check fixtures page for exact details.Feile Champions 2007 – Division 6
What a weekend!! The final preparations were finished off on Thursday evening at the pitch where flags were raised, bunting put up, pitch marked out, kitchen area made spotless and the sense of community and team work was everywhere. Our guests the girls from St Valentines in Cork and the boys from Easkey in Sligo arrived at lunchtime on Friday to glorious weather and a warm welcome. We played the boys game first with Easkey pushing us all the way before we recorded a close win on a score line of 1-6 to 1-3. The girls from St Valentines were too strong for our girls but everyone played their heart out and never gave up. Excellent hot food was provided at the pitch where again everyone played their part to ensure our guests were well looked after. Introductions to host families were made with a lot of talent spotting taking place. Later we met up and traveled together to Carrick for the parade which was excellently managed and very impressive. On Friday evening the host families and their guests got a good chance to spend some time together and hopefully make friends for the future. An early start on Saturday morning for the trip to Gortletteragh for the remaining group games and skills competition. Despite a bad forecast we managed to stay relatively dry as we had a comfortable win over Kilmore by 5-8 to 2-1 before playing Gortletteragh in the deciding game of the group. Having played Gortletteragh twice before in the Leitrim Feile we knew this was going to be tough and so it proved. The first half was very close and it was only after half time that we pulled away to win in the end by 4-9 to 3-2. Stephen represented the club well in the skills competition which the boy from Kilmore had the fastest time. Easkey brought us back to Ballinamore before heading home themselves as one of their players had a breathing problem and was anxious to get home. The Easkey club, mentors (JP and Tom), parents and especially the players were wonderful visitors and despite the short notice they made a great effort to participate in everything that was on. It was on to Bornacoola for the divisional semi-final against Elphin at 6pm on Saturday evening. A strong first half performance left us leading by 2-2 to 0-2 and a number of other scoring chances were not taken. The last five minutes of the game was not for the weak hearted as Elphin stormed forward. Our lads were exhausted at this stage and did extremely well to hang on for a 2-5 to 2-3 victory. Back home in time to change for the disco in the hall. More fabulous food was served to all and because of our early start for the final on Sunday morning the boys had to leave early just as they were getting into disco fever. The early start on Sunday morning was no bother to the players as they experienced the impressive new dressing rooms in Pairc Sean for the first time. A special word of thanks to Barry Prior who went out of his way to chat to the players and help with their warm up before the game. When the teams took their places on the pitch it was clear that Eire Og were physically much bigger and stronger than our lads. From the very start it was obvious that all our lads were up for the game. The tackling, covering, distribution and positional sense was a joy to watch and despite Eire Og’s best efforts to use their strength our lads never gave up. On numerous occasions our players won possession where they had no right to win it. Our discipline when tackling was such that we seldom gave away a free and several times the opposition fouled the ball by over carrying. The half time score was 0-3 to 0-1 in favour of Eire Og with Noel kicking over our point. The second half started with Mark kicking over a great point from an impossible angle on the right wing. The exchanges were tit for tat over the next few minutes and then disaster struck; we lost possession in the back line which allowed Eire Og in for a good goal which Daire had no chance with. The character of these players is such that they did not panic and did not drop their heads. With 4 minutes to go and 4 points down the odds were against us but a move which started with Daire collecting a ball in the goal mouth, soloing out until he could pick out Devan on the wing who in turn passed it on to Fionnbarr through to Brian and eventually to Noel who soloed through 3 tackles before placing a great shot low to the corner of the net for an inspirational goal. The momentum was now firmly with our lads and they drove forward again and again which resulted in the Eire Og defenders panicking and fouling our forwards. From the resultant frees Stephen popped over the equalizer in the last minute and then dropped the ball into the danger area for Noel to gather the breaking ball, turn and kick over the winning point with his left foot. Shortly afterwards the long whistle sounded to scenes to great joy from all involved. This was the ultimate team victory where all the squad members played their part over the weekend. The club was asked to summarise the boys for the Setanta TV people and here is that summary. Panel: Fergal Mc Tague, Kevin Murtagh, Rory Mc Tague, Barry Taylor, Tadgh Murray, Sean Fox, Mark Plunkett, Declan Flanagan, Conor Gaffney, Stephen Gilheany, Brian Flanagan, Noel Plunkett, Devin Quinn, David O’Connell, Fionnbarr Quinn, Gary Plunkett, Daire Mc Niff. Fergal was with us all year and although too young to participate he showed all the older players what he can do in different training and challenge matches. Kevin was on holidays and missed the weekend but would have been pushing for a place in the defense with his excellent tackling and positional sense. Rory can play in any position from goalie to full forward and is the mister versatility of the panel. Barry’s attitude to training and games is a model for all the other players; he has scored some great goals in this year’s Feile. Tadhg is a talented player who came on and scored a lovely point with his weaker left foot on the way to the final. Whenever and wherever he is asked to play he always puts in 100% for the cause of the team. Sean is determination personified and once he gets sight of the goals is nearly impossible to stop. Like a lot of the players on the team he is multi-talented. Mark is the third and youngest of the Plunkett brothers and because of his ability and score talking prowess from a very early age he has been a marked man in every game which just seems to spur him on. Declan’s positional play and ability to take the right choices are part of the reason for the success of this team. Despite his age and size his determination knows no bounds. Conor is one of the best readers of the game on the panel and what he lacks in height he makes up for in spirit. Conor is the youngest player on the panel who won’t be 11 until Thursday July 5th. Stephen has just completed first year in St Felims College Ballinamore and has been playing some great football this year where his left foot has engineered some fine scores. Brian is a whole hearted player who never gives up and is never afraid to put his body where it hurts. Noel is the captain of the team and a talented athlete having represented Leitrim and Connacht on a number of occasions. Noel’s fantastic fitness levels mean he is at the centre of a lot of play where he has scored many times. Devin is an accomplished defender whose confidence on the ball gives great inspiration to his team mates. David is multi talented both on and off the field where his excellent tackling mean very few forwards get the better of him. Fionnbarr’s speed off the mark is legendary and this coupled with his tenacity means he is a teak tough defender. He is also a talented gymnast. Gary is one of three brothers on the team and is mister dependability, gifted with two excellent feet; his reading of the game is second to none. Daire is an exceptional goal-keeper who stared in the 2006 Under 12 Leitrim Division 1 final including a penalty save. His quick reactions and fearless nature mark him as a talent for the future.Under 14 Championship
After the high of Feile it is back to normality this week with the start of the local championship with an away game to Carrigallen on Friday July 5th.Minor training

It is intended to start the construction of the new dressing rooms at the end of August.TRAINING

This weekend’s Lotto Draw will take place on Sunday in Gorby’s Newtowngore. The Jackpot is €3500.LEITRIM SUCCUMB TO GALWAY WITH A BRAVE PERFORMANCE
Leitrim senior footballers went under to a very fancied Galway in a new look Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday last. It was a very enjoyable game but somewhat disappointing as a number of opportunities had they been taken would have certainly put a different look on the final score. The TV coverage certainly presented the game in a good light from a Leitrim perspective and the qualifier against Donegal in two weeks time is by no means a foregone conclusion.GAA PRESIDENT OPENS NEW STAND
Nicky Brennan president of the GAA officially opened the New Stand in Carrick at half time in the senior game before a capacity crowd. The stand called the Ardan Mhic Samhrain is a wonderful edifice, which everybody associated with Leitrim GAA, should be very proud of.CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LEITRIM LADIES
In all the hype surrounding Sunday’s games in Carrick and the official opening of the new stand very little thought was given to our ladies team who were carving out a very impressive win over Westmeath in the All Intermediate Championship in Mullingar. It’s a pity this game had to clash with the men’s game and rather unfair on some of the ladies who had relations playing for Leitrim and were denied a chance to attend the game. Lets hope those in charge will show more consideration the next time out.TED WEBB
While Galway U-16’s defeated their Leitrim counterparts in the Ted Webb, which was played after the senior game in Pairc Sean on Sunday, club players Shane Flanagan, Morgan Quinn and Ryan Creamer all gave a good account of themselves and look to have bright intercounty and club futures ahead of them. We wish them good luck in the remainder of their games.FEILE – A BIG WEEK END FOR THE CLUB & COUNTY
The Feile – all Ireland U-14 football weekend – takes place all over Leitrim this weekend between Friday and Sunday. We were hosting two clubs but in the boys competition Drumreilly have been disappointed as Ballinameen from Co. Roscommon have pulled out. As I write I understand attempts are being made to add a replacement team. In the girls competition Aughawillan play St Valentines from Co. Cork. This game is scheduled for Friday afternoon June 29 in Aughawillan. The official opening of the competition with teams from all 32 counties plus a number of overseas teams from Britain and the USA takes place in Carrick on Friday evening. On Saturday evening a disco and BBQ has been organised for our visiting teams in Drumreilly. It should be a very spectacular occasion and lets hope it is not spoiled by bad weather. br>Monday 18th June 2007
JUNIORS CONTINUE LOSING WAYS
Our division 4 team suffered a heavy defeat at hands of a strong Melvin Gaels team in Aughawillan on Sunday last. The team was short a number of first team players which didn’t help the situation. All the damage was done in the first half at the end of which Melvin Gaels led by 1-09 to 0-01. The second saw a much more spirited performance and much a closer contest. The final score was Aughawillan 0-05 Melvin Gaels 1-14. A special mention to newcomer Ryan Gavin on making his debut for the club.

Our former secretary and county board delegate Sylvester McGovern (Syl) passed away on Tuesday April 3rd after a relatively short illness in St James Hospital, Dublin.
A popular and staunch GAA man Syl was well known throughout the county. Since he returned from England where he had spent most his adult life some 14 years ago Syl had been residing in Ballinamore. He was great supporter of Aughawillan and even in the time before he permanently returned home he frequently made the journey back, to see his club team in action during the numerous county final appearances in the 1970’ and 80’s. He was always willing to officiate as an umpire and graduated to become part of Referee Frank Flynn’s inter-county official party. This brought him to venues all over the country including a visit to Croke Park, which was the highlight of his umpiring career. At administrative level Syl was efficient and courteous. He was a stickler on procedure and had strong principles. But he was always fair and accepted the democratic decision. He loved his native Aughawillan and every week he made his weekly foray from Ballinamore on his motorbike to his home place and brother’s house in Boeshill. He was fond of a pint and was a regular in Prior’s and The Viking where he never missed an opportunity to support his second love Manchester United.
A large number of GAA connections and club members held a guard of honour to mark his final journey on Saturday morning. The Club would like to express their sincere sympathy to his wife Mary his sons Mark and Patrick, his daughter Katherine and his brothers PJ and Noel. Ár Dheis Dé ar a Anamh Dilis.
The club’s annual Good Friday poker classic was cancelled last Friday as a mark of respect to our former secretary the late Sylvester McGovern. It now on this Friday in The Ballymac Inn, Ballymagovern.
There is a guaranteed First Prize of €1000 plus lots of other cash prizes. Entry fee is €30, buyback €5.
The first competitive senior game of the year kicks off on Saturday evening next, April 14 when we host Annaduff in the first round of the new Shield competition. This game is fixed for 6.30pm in Aughawillan.
Results from the Lotto Draw on April 8 in Pat Joe Bar Ballinamore were as follows: The numbers drawn were 2 4 5 19. There was no Jackpot winner and the following were the winners of the seven €20 cash prizes: Helen Sweeney Drumcoura, Tom Connolly Ballinagh, Karen Holohan Drumreilly, Shieba Quinn Aughawillan, Robert McGuire Drumreilly, Margaret McCartan Templeport, Cecil Gault Aughawillan. The next draw takes place on Saturday April 21 in McGirl’s Bar Ballinamore.
The Leitrim team had a great win over London on Sunday last in what is a difficult venue to win. Everything now hinges on the outcome of Sundays game against Monaghan in Cloone and indeed the other games in the division.
Its good time to remind those who have received invitations to contribute to the new stand in Pairc Sean, that now is the time to get your contribution in. It is anticipated the stand will be ready for the beginning of June.

The club’s annual Good Friday poker classic is being held in the Community Centre Aughawillan on Friday night. Event Co-ordinators John McHugh & Pat Flanagan would welcome all support and remind caterers and club officials to be available to help out. There is a guaranteed First Prize of €1000 plus lots of other cash prizes. Entry fee is €30, buyback €5.
It was formally agreed at our recent club meeting to undertake the construction of two new dressing rooms, a meeting room, a kitchen area, a new boiler room and public toilet facilities. The work is to commence this summer and will hopefully be completed by year-end. The existing dressing room facilities were constructed in 1982 with additional gym and kitchen facilities added in the late 1990’s. This is part of a two-stage development. The second stage will encompass the replacement or upgrading of the older dressing room block with new facilities and the construction of a new press box.
On the funding side the project has received lotto support from the National Lottery but this has to be substantially supplemented by fundraising at club level. Preparations for fundraising are currently under way and members will be informed as these take shape over the coming weeks.
In the second round game with our near neighbours Sean O Heslin’s on Sunday morning the Junior team won their first league point with a well-deserved but hard earned draw in Ballinamore. The match was evenly contested throughout and the half time score of five points apiece reflected the difficulty both teams had in putting scores on the board. The second half saw a glut of goals two for Aughawillan three for the home team – their last coming almost on the stroke of full time to deny the visitors outright victory. Aughawillan had inspiring displays from Ciaran Smyth, Niall Doonan and Gary Maxwell with good link up from Niall Beirne up front. There were strong performances from Sean Prior and Frank Flynn at centre field, Kevin McTague and Ollie Plunkett in defence and Padraig Dolan in goals. Scorers: Ciaran Smyth (0-03) Gary Maxwell (1-02) Niall Doonan (1-02) Niall Beirne (0-01) and Barry McBrien (0-01). Final Score: Aughawillan 2-09 Sean O Heslins 3-06. Referee James McCaffrey.
Congratulations to the U-16 team on reaching the league final.
The fortnightly lotto draw takes place on April 7 (Easter Saturday) in Reynolds’s Lounge Ballinamore.
The committee are pleased to announce that they are progressing preparations for the construction of tennis and basketball hard courts in the car parking area at Aughawillan GAA grounds.
The committee would like to acknowledge the assistance and financial support being received from the Leitrim County Council Led Task Force and the Special EU Programmes Body in the promotion of this project.
Further updates on progress will be issued over the coming months.
The Club would like to express their sincerest sympathy to Paddy Higgins’s family Drumshanbo on the death of their son Niall last week as result of a road traffic accident. Ar Dheis Dé ar a anamh.
To Colin Griffin Aughadark Ballinamore on his selection on the Irish Olympic team to travel to Beijing in 2008. Colin will represent Ireland in the walk competition. He is the first Leitrim athlete since Frances Cryan former rower from Carrick on-Shannon to achieve such a prestigious honour. Colin has close Aughawillan connections – his mother Patricia is from Aughawillan and current Aughawillan team manager Mickey Quinn is his Uncle.
The Leitrim senior team had a great win over the auld enemy ROS in the Hyde on Sunday last. It didn’t look a likely result for a long time but two well-taken goals in the second half sealed a famous victory – one a direct result of long Barry Prior delivery into Roscommon goalmouth. Well done Barry and the rest of the Leitrim team.

There was no winner of the Lotto held on Sunday night in Drumcoura City. The numbers drawn were 4, 9, 15 20. The €20 winners on the night were Margaret Cooney, Aughavas, Renna Curneen Aughnasheelin, Denis Brady Unshinagh, Lorraine Murray, N
